Born in 1973, Kolkata-based artist Prasanta Acharjee holds a five-year Diploma in Painting from the Indian Society of Oriental Art. Over the years, he has exhibited widely in India and abroad, with solo shows at Tejas Art Gallery (2015), Shrimati Art Gallery (2012), and Picture Perfect, Gurgaon (2001), and international showcases including Expressions East and West at Islington Art Factory, London (2011) and the 2nd Friendship Art Exhibition in Dhaka (2009). Acharjee’s works are held in collections across Delhi, Singapore, London, and Brazil. He has been honoured with the Lilavati K. Shah Memorial Medal (1997) and the Santosh Kumar Chongdar Memorial Medal (1999) by the Indian Society of Oriental Art.
“In the Saxophone Player series, I translate the essence of music into a visual rhythm. The musician becomes a symbol - less a figure, more a movement captured in time. Through bold silhouettes and contrasting hues, I try to echo the energy of jazz, its improvisational flow and emotional intensity. The absence of detail allows color, gesture, and rhythm to take center stage, inviting viewers to ‘hear’ the artwork through their eyes. Each piece is a fleeting note frozen in color, where rhythm and hue dance together in a visual melody.”
