Good Luck, Etching, 50 cm x 69 cm, 2022
Born in Bilaspur and now based in Visakhapatnam, Jyotsna Mandapaka transitioned from commerce to fine arts, earning her BFA and MFA in Printmaking from Andhra University. With a practice rooted in etching and watercolour, her works blend narrative depth with visual simplicity. Her art has been showcased at NGMA New Delhi, Nine Fish Art Gallery and the Art Revolution Taipei. She has received the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Merit Award and Bombay Art Society’s Late Govindrao Nikam Award, among others.
“Good Luck draws from India’s rich artistic traditions—where elephants draped in kalamkari and folk motifs parade in celebration. I chose the elephant for its historical and symbolic significance, representing strength and auspiciousness. This work reflects my fascination with India’s visual culture and the layered role animals play in our mythology, rituals and collective memory. Through etching, I translate these cultural textures into a personal narrative of celebration and meaning.”
