Basuki Nath Dasgupta, a mural painter and visual artist, graduated in Fine Arts (1992) and completed his Master’s in Mural Painting (1994) from Santiniketan, Visva Bharati. His artistic journey is deeply influenced by his hometown, Bishnupur, West Bengal, renowned for its terracotta temples. The intricate patterns, rhythmic forms, and sacred architecture of these temples continue to shape his visual language.

“Through Devi, I explore the eternal dialogue between divinity and humanity. The concept of Durga and Mahishasura extends beyond mythology, embodying the timeless struggle between compassion and greed, truth and ego. My textured surfaces reflect the complexities of human relationships—an interplay of attachment and release, holding on and letting go. The rhythmic silence of temple corridors, the echoes of bats, and the soul of Bengali folk traditions all resonate within this piece, weaving nostalgia and faith into an intricate visual tapestry.”
